A PDO Thread Lift is a minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue using a dissolvable barbed surgical suture made of polydioxanone (PDO). PDO Thread Lifts are often referred to as the middle ground between facelift surgery and dermal filler because of their impressive results.

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

During a PDO Thread Lift, your injector will strategically insert absorbable barbed surgical sutures under your skin which are then pulled upwards to lift and tighten the skin.

Along with a special technique, the unique barbed thread is key to the significant “lift” that these threads provide. The thread is invisible and contains tiny, painless barbs which provide support and lift to the desired area by ensuring the threads grip the underlying tissue and muscles as they’re pulled taut.

We numb the insertion area with a local anesthetic and use as many sutures as needed to hold elevated tissue in place. While you may experience discomfort during the procedure, it should not be painful.

Effects are immediate, and as the surgical sutures dissolve naturally over time, they’ll kick-start collagen synthesis in the treated area, providing long-lasting rejuvenation results.

The threads themselves disappear through hydrolysis after six months. The lifted facial contours can remain for one year or more due to collagen-boosting effects.

Benefits of a Thread Lift

Thread Lifts have gained popularity for their intensely rejuvenating results with minimal downtime. They’re perfect for those who’ve been considering a Facelift but aren’t ready to take that step just yet. Note that receiving a Thread Lift does NOT impact your ability to receive a facelift later on.

A Thread Lift can significantly restore lost volume in areas including the cheeks, jawline, neck, brows, and eyelids. There are 3 main effects of a Thread Lift:

  • Instant skin lifting
  • Cellular renewal through collagen stimulation
  • Improvement of texture, fine lines, and wrinkles

PDO thread lifts are ideal for patients in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who still have adequate facial volume and are looking for a non-invasive lift.

Patients with significant volume loss or sagging skin may not be a good candidate for this procedure.

Before considering a PDO thread lift, it’s important to understand the treatment and achievable outcomes. This type of procedure utilizes delicate sutures, which are carefully inserted into areas of the face affected by age-related volume and structure loss.

The threads then reposition sagging skin to create a more youthful look with little downtime needed afterward.

Before and after images showcase how effective Thread Lifts can be in restoring lost fullness in areas such as the cheeks, jawline, neck, brows, and eyelids.

PDO Thread Lift Aftercare Tips

Bruising, swelling, and redness are common with this procedure. There are no incisions with a PDO Thread Lift, and no scars are visible. Since PDO threads are completely absorbable, there’s no need for removal once completed; the threads dissolve over time, leaving no trace behind.

It’s essential to follow the aftercare guidelines your injector provides to achieve the best results. In general, best aftercare practices following a PDO Thread Lift include:

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, including Ibuprofen, Advil, Excedrin, Aleve, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, and Omega-3s, as these are blood-thinning agents that impair your blood’s ability to clot, leading to more bleeding and bruising.

  • Avoid alcohol immediately following your procedure (12-24 hours), as alcohol also thins the blood.

  • No dental procedures 2 weeks before or after your appointment, as this can pose a risk of infection.

Cost of a PDO Thread Lift

The cost of a PDO Thread Lift can vary depending on the area being treated, the type of threads used, and the number of threads used.

On average, PDO Thread Lift procedure cost approximately $2,500+. As PDO Thread Lifts are considered an elective cosmetic procedure, they are not typically covered by health insurance. However, some doctors offer financing plans to make it easier for patients to pay for their procedures. It is important to discuss the cost and payment options with your provider during a consultation prior to scheduling an appointment.
