Prepare the Vinegar Soak Solution:
- 1 teaspoon of white vinegar in 2 cups of disinfected or distilled water.
- Prepare disinfected water by boiling water for 1 minute and let it cool in a clean glass container before adding vinegar.
- It can be helpful to make a big pitcher of the soak solution and store it in the refrigerator.
The first 3 hours:
- For the first 3 hours after your procedure you may experience heat and a throbbing sensation like an intense sunburn.
- Do not apply anything to your face during this time other than Velez HOCL Hydrating Mist or Avene Thermal water.
- A neck fan can help with the heat sensation.
Apply the Vinegar Soak Solution:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Do your first soak 3-4 hours after your procedure.
- Pour 3/4 cup into a clean bowl per soak.
- Using a clean cloth for each soak, gently press the wet cloth on to face for 30 – 60 seconds then rewet the cloth, wring out slightly and press again. Repeat this process for 10 minutes.
- Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor, Laser Balm, Vaseline, or coconut oil to the treated area immediately after soaking. The ointment must be kept on your skin continuously for 3 days when not soaking.
- Dry with a clean towel and sleep on a clean pillowcase. Be careful not to let pets touch your face.
- For the first 48 hours after treatment, do a soak every 2 hours. Do not remove the previous ointment before each soak, except when washing face in AM and PM once cleared to do so. Vinegar water should be cold for the first 24 hours, and room temperature until day 3.
- Leave the Aquaphor, Laser balm, Vaseline, or coconut oil on your skin and soak the treated area using a clean soft washcloth (baby washcloths are the perfect size and texture for soaks. Do NOT use baby wipes)
- Reapply Aquaphor, Laser Balm, Vaseline, or coconut oil to the treated area immediately after soaking.
- Practice Strict Sun avoidance
- Day 3, continue soaks every 4 hours while you are awake and once or twice during the night. Vinegar water should now be warm (not hot), or as instructed by your provider.
- If any crusting or oozing occurs or increases, keep the area clean with soap and water and then apply emollients (Aquaphor, Laser balm, Vaseline, or coconut oil).
