Sofwave
Care Instructions
Prepare For Your Procedure
Sofwave is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production and improve the appearance of skin laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles. Because the surface of the skin remains intact, there is typically little to no downtime associated with treatment.
Please discuss your complete medical history, allergies, medications, supplements, and prior aesthetic treatments with your CULT Aesthetics provider before your appointment.
Please notify your provider before treatment if you:
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or have given birth within the last 3 months.
- Have an active illness, infection, fever, cold sore, rash, open wound, or other active skin condition in or near the treatment area.
- Have severe or cystic acne in the treatment area.
- Have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device.
- Have metal implants, plates, screws, stents, or other implanted material in or near the treatment area.
- Have a history of significant scarring, keloid formation, impaired wound healing, bleeding disorders, or other significant medical conditions.
- Are currently taking or have recently taken isotretinoin/Accutane or another prescription retinoid.
- Take anticoagulant, antiplatelet, or other medications that may affect bleeding or healing.
- Have dermal filler or another implantable aesthetic product in or near the planned treatment area.
- Have a history of melasma.
Do not discontinue any prescription medication unless specifically instructed to do so by the clinician who prescribed it.
If you have recently received dermal filler, biostimulatory injections, threads, surgery, or another energy-based treatment in the area, please let your CULT provider know so treatment timing can be appropriately coordinated.
Maintain good hydration and your normal healthy diet with adequate protein intake leading up to treatment.
If you have an important social event immediately following your appointment, let your provider know. Sofwave typically has minimal downtime, but temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or sensitivity can occur.
The Day of Your Procedure
Please arrive with the treatment area clean and free of makeup, skincare products, sunscreen, lotions, or oils whenever possible.
Pre-procedure photographs will be taken.
A topical numbing cream may be applied before treatment to maximize your comfort but is largely unnecessary. Your treatment team will provide instructions regarding numbing based on the area being treated and your individualized treatment plan.
During treatment, ultrasound gel is applied to the skin and the Sofwave handpiece is systematically placed over the treatment area. A forced chilled air device may be used for comfort during the procedure.
You may feel warmth, pressure, or brief pulses of heat as the ultrasound energy is delivered. Sofwave incorporates integrated cooling designed to protect the surface of the skin while ultrasound energy is delivered into the dermis.
Treatment time varies depending on the areas being treated, but a typical facial treatment takes approximately 30–45 minutes, not including preparation or numbing time.
After Your Procedure
One of the benefits of Sofwave is its minimal downtime. Because treatment does not disrupt or remove the surface of the skin, most patients are able to immediately resume their normal daily activities.
Temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling, tenderness, or sensitivity may occur after treatment. These effects are generally mild and often resolve within several hours, although individual responses vary.
You may apply makeup and sunscreen following treatment unless your provider gives you different instructions.
Continue using a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day and practice routine sun protection to support overall skin health and protect your results.
If your skin feels temporarily warm or sensitive:
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
- Avoid aggressively rubbing or massaging the treated area.
- A cool compress may be used for comfort.
- Temporarily hold irritating or exfoliating skincare products if they cause stinging or sensitivity, and resume them once your skin feels normal.
You may otherwise return to your normal skincare routine and activities as tolerated unless your provider instructs you differently.
What to Expect From Your Results
Sofwave works by initiating a gradual remodeling response within the skin. Results are therefore progressive rather than immediate.
Some patients may begin noticing improvement within the first several weeks, with continued collagen remodeling and visible improvement developing over approximately 12 weeks and beyond.
Results vary based on age, baseline skin quality, treatment area, degree of laxity, and your individual biological response.
Many patients achieve meaningful improvement following one Sofwave treatment, while some may benefit from an additional treatment or future maintenance treatment based on their individualized care plan.
