Renuva
Care Instructions

Prepare for your Procedure

  • Refrain from Aspirin or Anti-inflammatory medications – It's advisable to steer clear of over-the-counter analgesics, except for Tylenol. These medications could heighten the likelihood of bruising or swelling post-injection.
  • Avoid Alcohol – Abstaining from alcohol for 2 to 3 days before your appointment is recommended, as alcohol can act as a blood thinner and elevate the risk of bruising.
  • Avoid herbal supplements such as fish oil, ginkgo, ginseng, St. John's Wort, and garlic pills. Continuing a multivitamin is fine.
  • Discuss any allergies and all current medications with your provider beforehand.
  • Consider starting arnica montana, a natural supplement that can help minimize swelling and bruising, one day before the procedure and continue after the treatment.
  • Cut down on salty foods before and after your treatment to prevent excess water retention, which can exacerbate swelling.
  • Avoid hair removal treatments, such as waxing or tweezing, at least 2 days before the procedure. Inform your provider about any planned chemical peels or laser treatments, as these could irritate the injection site.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, inform your provider, as the procedure might trigger an outbreak, and pre-treatment may be necessary.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, disclose this to your provider, as the safety of fillers hasn't been established for these individuals and treatment is generally not advised.

Day of your Procedure

  • Come Makeup Free – We recommend that you do not wear makeup for your visit. Your provider will cleanse the area with an antiseptic prior to treatment but makeup can hinder this process.
  • Our comfort menu will be provided and includes blankets, neck support pillows, soothing music, giggle gas (for an additional fee), topical numbing, and a comfort nerve block.
  • Each injection takes only a moment and will be performed in the areas discussed with your provider.
  • The duration of the procedure can vary from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your specific treatment plan.

Renuva should be used only by skilled and trained injectors. One should not inject Renuva until proper training is completed. The following recommendations were created by physicians with significant experience using Renuva.

  • Renuva is an allograft adipose matrix. Renuva contains the same collagens, growth factors and proteins as your own fat. Injecting to goal is recommended. Over-injection should be carefully avoided.
  • Expect an inflammatory response as the body replaces adipose tissue at the site of injection. This response will be self-limited, but some redness, firmness, and tenderness around the injection site is possible.
  • Renuva may be used in areas where adipose tissue is normally found, i.e. the subcutaneous or deep fat planes. It is not meant to be placed in dermal, glandular or muscular planes.
  • Renuva has not been studied in large volume applications. Therefore, it is not recommended to be used in large volume procedures.

After your Procedure

  • Patients will likely experience some swelling, tenderness and erythema which may persist for the first several days to weeks post-injection. NSAIDs may be taken and ice may be applied when necessary for discomfort.
  • Refrain from vigorous physical activity, high heat activity and alcohol consumption for the first 24 hours post-treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.
  • Tinted SPF may be applied immediately after the procedure. It is important to keep the treated area clean. Normal cleansing and skincare can be resumed that night.
  • Some lumpiness may be felt temporarily until the filler settles with normal tissue integration and absorption. If the patient experiences firmness, lumpiness, or even “nodules” they should be managed with moderate massage until they resolve.
  • To decrease bruising and swelling, lightly apply ice to the treated area in intervals of 10-15 minutes for the first 1-2 hours after the procedure.
  • Limit exposure to strong sunlight or extreme temperatures until any swelling or redness subsides. Use a mineral-based sunscreen with SPF 30+ for protection.
  • In rare instances, allergic reactions have been reported with use of Renuva. Injectors should have appropriate treatment of allergic reaction available. Renuva is contraindicated for patients with severe allergies manifesting as anaphylaxis or severe sensitivity to allergens (e.g., hives, asthma), and for patients with known allergy to allograft adipose matrix or to chemicals used for allograft adipose matrix processing, including sodium Deoxycholate, 1-Propanol Peracetic acid, Ethanol, Propylene Glycol and Chlorhexidine.
  • We will send you a 24 hour safety check text message if you are opted in. In the rare event of excessive pain, visual changes, skin discoloration or white appearance of the skin, severe swelling, visible red lumps, or whiteheads, please reach out to your provider directly through the Cult Aesthetics Clinics contact methods or at the clinic itself.
